Over three days of Studio Sale, 50 pieces - made between 1997 & 2007, previously exhibited or presented - went home with friends to have lives out in the world as art, instead of continuing in the dark as stored nothings. During this month, a grand total of nearly 70 pieces became visible again. Value can be created with an exchange of something other than a large pile of money. Thank you for coming. Shiny sides are aluminum foil wrapped poster board, pinned to top of light box. Foil reflects light back into box & keeps from shining into the room where it can fog unexposed paper & damage eyesight.

Top board, to which fixtures are attached, was spray-painted silver for reflection.
Fixtures are attached without bulbs in because screws go in behind bulbs.
Bulbs supplied with fixtures were donated to resale shop.

Scrap plywood & lumber for supports used.
Total cost, including bulbs & can of spray paint (although I had some hanging around), approximately $290.

Size can be increased by making the box longer, adding more fixtures parallel to those pictured. Continue adding with each additional fixture on 2.5 inch center.
This box fits on my table & prints 20x24 inch very well.

Come to Art & Coffee on Tuesday, May 24, at 9:30 AM, when Alyssa Salomon recounts the history of the Art-o-mat, a recycled cigarette machine that dispenses original works of art, packed in cellophane the size of a pack of cigarettes. The first Art-o-mat was created by Clark Whittington in Winston-Salem, N.C., in 1997. Since then, the Art-o-mat enterprise has grown across North America and around the world, with more than 400 artists producing work for 90 active machines. The Visual Arts Center of Richmond proudly houses Virginia’s first permanent Art-O-Mat machine. Salomon will show examples of work produced for and collected from Art-O-Mats, and instruct the audience on how they, too, can make art for Art-0-Mats around the country. Alyssa Salomon has been a contributing Art-O-Mat artist since 2002, a host since 2001 & one of 18 artists included in Unpacked, the first limited edition book done in conjunction with the Art-O-Mat.
