the day I have been waiting for

April 21 - the day-old chicks arrive as scheduled at Adams Sport Mart.  250 Rhode Island Reds + Barred Rocks; supposedly all pullets.

My neighbor Edna assists me in selecting 3 of each; Virginia law requires a minimum 6 chick purchase.

Edna advised picking from those that were actively eating and drinking, demonstrating excellent survival skills from the get-go.

Chick heat lamps are red to prevent eye damage while keeping the creatures in creature comforts.

Here are some of the girls in their new home.

target market & grammar

So does "complete" modify "idiot" or "guide"?

Speaking of Garden of Eden, I saw the water snake who lives in the artisian well for the first and second time this season today.

today the wood ducks

Wood duck pair rolled through this afternoon; wood duck house occupied by sleeping racoon.  Moved on after 10 minutes again this year.

influx of ducks

Several hundred lesser scaups landed this morning, settling in for their share of Lake Chickahominy winter now that duck hunting season is over.  The scaups cruise, dive, & drift; making being a duck seem super fun.  Geese allow the much small scaups plenty of room; super bad scaups.

Those dots in the upper 1/3 of the images are 3 dozen of the flock.
