Monday morning, overcast. Numerous turtles, snapping & painted, boldly heading south across US Route 60. I think of New Kent as oriented directionally east-west, following Route 60 & Interstate 64. But clearly, there is another point of view: with wetlands above & the Chick below, there are those thinking north-south. It all depends on where you're going. Picked up two small snapping turtles at two different points. One had been injured. Released them in swamp, where there may be dangers, but none barrelling along at 60mph. Arriving nervously withdrawn, within 10 minutes of resting on the damp ground they ambled off. No sign since.
